I am a fusion bellydance performer and instructor based in Reading (UK), trained in both traditional and modern fusion styles of Middle Eastern dance. I have taught regular classes in the Reading area for a year and a half, teach workshops nationally and perform across the country at a variety of events. I have passed the JWAAD Foundation Course (safe delivery of bellydance classes) which is recognised by the Open Colleges Network and am certified Rachel Brice’s Eight Elements (TM) level 1: Initiation.
I have studied bellydance for many years. I have been trained by several Reading-based teachers, including Emma Pyke and Kathryn Dawes, as well as seeking supplementary tuition with many of the most influential dancers in the world today, such as Rachel Brice, Ariellah, Aziza, Yasmina of Cairo and Carolena Nerriccio. I am experienced in a range of styles of bellydance, from the more traditional regional styles of oriental dance as well as modern fusion styles that have developed in the west. I am particularly focussed upon Tribal Fusion bellydance and have developed my own style which is influenced by classic oriental bellydance as well as contemporary dance. My broad background makes me unusually flexible and diverse in the types of performance I can offer. For a full history of my dance tuition go to this page.
As well as performing as a soloist I am part of the Reading-based bellydance troupe Covert Bling, and I am part of the team that organises the regular Hipnotic showcase events in Reading. I regularly write about dance in publications and online. I have a great love of Middle Eastern dance in all of its forms and am extremely active in the local, national and international dance community. As well as regularly performing in haflas and shows organised by the dance community, I can be seen performing regularly in some of the Reading based cabaret and variety shows, as well as in clubs in London that cater for the alternative scene.
I teach regular classes in the Reading area. I am a founder teacher in the Hipnotic School of Bellydance, a cooperative of local dancers who teach, host events and run performance groups throughout the Reading area. I have studied Yoga since I was 16 and spent two years studying human anatomy as part of my University education. Both Yoga and Anatomy feature heavily in my philosophy of dance instruction.
All Hipnotic teachers are well-connected professionals, fully insured and competent with many years dance experience and expertise in several dance styles and the use of a variety of props. We are dedicated to giving our students a positive dance experience, and a variety of performance opportunities.
